The world will again know the golden strand.

Pāṭ — jute. Sown in the silt of the Ganges delta, braided by sixty-five women in Howrah, and returned to the soil when its work is done.

Chapter I · One season of jute, from silt to strand

The Strand

01

Sown in silt

As the pre-monsoon rains arrive, jute is sown across the alluvial floodplains of the Ganges–Brahmaputra delta. In Bengal it is simply pāṭ.

03

Retting

Cut stalks are sunk in still village ponds for two to three weeks. Native microbes loosen the bark. No solvent, no furnace — only water, time and patience.

04

The golden strand

Stripped by hand, washed and sun-dried, the fibre takes on its lustre: cellulose and lignin, grown rather than refined.

Braided & crocheted by hand

Three plies, two hands, unbroken tension — the foundation for our signature crochet bags, structured totes, and sculpted home décor accents.

06

And nothing wasted

Every offcut is twisted back into twine, trims and tassels. In true zero-waste ecology, our agricultural cycle leaves zero residue: the tender, antioxidant-rich leaves of the jute plant become Amata Moroheiya Infusion — a nourishing botanical tea. From leaf to stalk to finished crochet bag, nothing is discarded.

Chapter II · Animal Soul & Biomimicry

The Nest

The sparrow mocks the weaver bird: “You live in a straw hut and boast of your craft, while I live in comfort on a mansion and you suffer sun, rain and storm.” The weaver laughs: “No doubt. Yet I live in a home of my own. Brick it may be, brother — but yours is another's house. Mine is raw, built with my own hands, and it is splendid.”

  1. i.

    Waste nothing

Every offcut becomes twine and tassels; tender plant leaves yield Amata Moroheiya Infusion.

  2. ii.

    Hold by tension

No synthetic glue or stiffeners. Every crochet bag and décor piece keeps its form through interlocking knot tension.

  3. iii.

    Return to earth

When its long life ends, the piece dissolves into fertile soil humus in 45 days. Complete ecological closure.

Custodians & Still Growing Every Season

Rural women across the courtyards of Howrah and Nadia form the living heartbeat of our collective. Not anonymous labour — but a thriving sisterhood of master artisans reclaiming their heritage, financial sovereignty, and creative voice.

Plate I — The Living Memory · Howrah Verandas, 2022

For decades, rural craftswomen were treated as silent hands at the end of exploitative middlemen chains. Divulge was born to flip that reality on its head. We began around a single village veranda in Howrah; today, over 63 master craftswomen — and an ever-expanding circle — earn dignified fair-living wages, work flexibly from their ancestral homes, and pass on generational knowledge with genuine pride.

Every bag carries the warmth of afternoon laughter, shared Bengali songs, and meticulous crochet precision. Here, when a woman picks up the crochet needle, she doesn't just craft luxury — she opens her first independent savings account, funds her daughters’ schooling, and earns an untouchable seat of honor in her household. Growth is not an industrial quota; it is the blossoming of human freedom, knot by knot.

“When I hold the golden strand, I am no longer invisible. I am creating heirlooms that journey to living rooms across Mumbai, London, and Berlin, carrying our dignity and our village's name to the world.”
